Full Description
Indus Valley plate.
Early to mid third Millennium B.C
Charming example exhibiting popular loop motif around the rim of the plate.
It is generally assumed such loops represent rivers, thus illustrating the way which the people of the Indus Valley chose to represent the natural world on everyday objects.
The cross in the middle of the plate besides being a decorative design, has religious and mythological significance, representing the four directions of life.
