Sixth Century Rare Painted Court Lady
6th Century A.D
Elegant female composition with arms rested by sides concealed by long sleeves of red high-bodiced gown with moulded lapels falling to the base in rhythmic folds, feet protruding slightly. Incised hole in right arm at one time perhaps for a standard.
Well defined features moulded in low relief, original pigmentation of the eyes and lips remaining, framed by tall black flat-topped hat.
Loose head as standard attached to body.
For further examples cf. Toji Taikei, vol. 34, pl.44.
