    Ming Dynasty Male Servant

    1368-1643 A.D

Male figure standing in obeisance, ready to serve on two tier pedestal base, wearing white and green glazed robes and skirts with hands clutching towel in front of figure. Wearing flat-topped pill-box-style hat with red pigment remaining as seen on figures from this period, hair hangs long and loose beneath. Features in slight relief with traces of pigment remaining. Figures such as this, and other 'mingqi' frequently occur within Ming burials, and were no doubt intended to represent the deceased's real-life attendants, and to cater for the needs of the deceased in the after life.
