Babylonian Duck-Bill Axe
2100-1570 B.C
Duck-bill axe, oblong rounded blade, fenestrated with two oblong openings, socket for handle; with patchy earthy patina; a development of the Eye axe.
A wall painting from the tomb of Khnumhotep III at Beni-hasan from the Middle Kingdom shows a caravan of Semites en route to Egypt, armed with the typical weapons of Canaan in the period of the patriarchs, including the duck-bill blade.
