Romano-British 'Aucissa' Brooch
1st Century A.D
Two-piece brooch; rectangular head perforated by axis and hinge mechanism for pin, bow of wide thin bronze with chamfered sides, arching at midpoint with short tapered bow, with stepping on a returned curve and culminating in slight swelling, considered in memory of the applied foot knob with catch plate incorporated. Knob-like protuberance decorate head of bow, two at first step of foot surmounted by V-shaped incision.
British variant of the 'Aucissa' type. Examples found at Dorset, Hod Hill, Maiden Castle, and Wiltshire.
