    Byzantine Animal Lock

    circa 10th Century A.D

    Bronze barbed spring padlock in shape of a hare, made of two sheets of bronze fused together. A few similar examples have been found in Eastern Europe, could also be of British origin, the design transferred to Britain from Iran during the Crusades.
