    Roman Terracotta Rhinoceros Lamp

    2nd Century A.D

    Buff orange clay, brown glaze, central discus showing rhinoceros standing right, undecorated sloping shoulder, tall loop handle, tapered channel with volutes flanking either side of lower half and rounded nozzle. Rhinoceros one of the lesser found subjects on zoomorphic lamps.
