Superb Attic Red Figure Pelike
Fourth Century B.C
Buff light tan brown clay with black gloss over whole, varying from dullish light wash to metallic sheen. Ovoid shaped body standing on tall discoid base with slight flange between, tall neck with concave sides opens out to heavily rolled over mouth, pair of wide flattened handles with central ridges situated just below rim and attach to upper body. One side showing draped female holding mirror in outstretched left hand standing left of naked male bar chlamys, carrying basket in right hand, series of red bands decorate footring, wave motif above, palmette complex flanking both sides, reverse showing two heavily draped males standing opposite each other, right figure holding staff in right hand, rosette in the field.
A superb example in excellent condition.
