Northern Wei Unusual Buddha Tile
386-535 AD
Unusual convex-form earthenware tile with three crevices each with representation of the seated Buddha wearing long monastic robes, features typical of Buddha include the serene facial expression, elongated ear lobes, protuberance on top of the head known as usnisa; hands concealed within robes so difficult to ascertain their positioning (mudra), believed to have spiritual meaning.
