Ancient Greek Olpes

Like the ‘lagynos’ and ‘ oinochoe’, the ‘olpe’ was a popular choice of wine jug for the ancient Greeks. The majority of ancient Greek olpes were potted in painted terracotta, although metal examples were also common among the upper classes. Olpes would probably have been used during symposia: an essential part of male civic life for the ancient Greeks.
