Ancient Seals, Stamps & Signets

During the Medieval period, bronze seals were a conspicuous indicator of wealth as their production was more expensive than that of lead seals and the hardness of the metal ensured that they lasted longer. The status of the owner was reflected by the size as well as by the material of the seal, and a combination of motif and text on the seal offered further insight as to his/her position.
