St Catherine
According to the tradition, Catherine a young noble Christian, beautiful and cultured, was martyred in Alexandria of Egypt in 305. Catherine tried to dissuade the emperor Maximinus (or Massentium) from pagan worship and because of this was condemned to a horrible torture after having converted with her wisdom and firmness many court intellectuals. The furious emperor condemned the young girl to death on a spiked wheel, but the intervention of an angel saved her.
