Vellum is a writing surface similar to paper made from calf skin, it is distinguishable from the similar term parchment by the fact of its being made from the superior calf as opposed to other animal skins. Vellum is the material used for the finer illuminated manuscripts which are richly decorated. Vellum is revered for its subtle beauty and warmth as well as its durability.
