Wood

Though it is often perishable, some examples of wooden artefacts from antiquity remain as it was a commonly used material for a wide variety of forms. Wood can be used to build sculptures on a large scale as well as being intricately carved with great detail. Of particular note regarding their preservation, wooden artefacts of unusual antiquity can be found from ancient Egyptian tombs given their dry conditions; popular in the Middle Kingdom are servant figures carved from wood and placed in tombs to accompany the deceased to the afterlife.
