Galba
Galba was Roman emperor for seven months from 68 to 69 AD and was the first of the emperors of the “year of the four emperors” following emperor Nero’s death. Galba joined an ultimately unsuccessful usurpation of Nero that nonetheless led to Nero’s suicide and learning of his support form the Praetorian Guard proclaimed himself emperor. Galba’s age and according weakness led to his inability to maintain the support of the Praetorian Guard which was exacerbated by his refusal to pay them for their loyalty, his instantiation of himself as emperor was also weak among the populace due to his unpopularity after levying very large tax increased for those who were slow to accept him. Galba was killed by his ally Otho who rebelled when Galba passed over him as successor.
