Black Onyx

A variety of chalcedony with concentric bands predominantly of black or dark brown. In Ancient Egypt they are known from the Predynastic Period though were most popular during the 22nd Dynasty and the Greco-Roman period where onyx was often used for intaglios and cameos and was imitated in glass.
