Bactria (or Bactriana) was the name of a historical region in central Asia of which very little is known and it was only discovered in the 1970’s. We know that several important trade routes from India and China passed through Bactria from the Bronze Age onwards. This likely allowed for the accumulation of vast wealth by the predominantly nomadic population, resulting in the production of such fine pieces such as this.
