During the Cypro-Archaic period, a great quantity of figurines were left as dedications at the numerous sanctuaries around the island. Materials such as terracotta, or the locally occurring limestone, were popular choices as they were easy to shape and cheap to produce. The figurines were often sculpted in the half round and with a simple, squared off, form. The craftsmen focused their abilities crafting detailed faces and hairstyles instead.
