A Han Dynasty Attendant

$4,104.62

An elegant and large grey earthenware Han Dynasty attendant. The figure has been designed with typical Han Dynasty features, including the slender form and draping robes with elongated sleeves, as well as shoes just visible under the folds of the hem. The figure retains the original white slip, with additional decoration in red, umber, and black pigments to show the facial features and hair, which forms a long ponytail down below the shoulders. Her slim frame juxtaposes the robust and portly form of the Tang Dynasty ‘Fat Ladies’.

Date: Circa 200 BC/AD
Period: Han Dynasty
Condition: Very fine, complete and intact. The slip and painted decoration a little rubbed in places but largely extant, with light earthy accretions. Repair to the right sleeve.
