Selection of Tang Dynasty Court Lady Statuettes

$315.74

A selection of hollow-mould terracotta Chinese Tang period statuettes of female court attendants. The figures are shown wearing a long robe and an upper garment tied to the waist with flaring sleeves. The figures are presented standing, with the right arm held to the chest, and wearing an elaborate headpiece. The original white, red and black pigments are still visible to the statuettes’ surface. Such colours would have been applied after firing, with the result that they would have been more prone to flaking.
