A Byzantine gold belt buckle set with patterned agate to the front. The buckle has a slender and sleek tongue-shaped plaque finishing in a bulb finial. Three studs are attached to the plate.

The first buckles were made in bronze and produced ubiquitously, enjoying widespread use across cultures.
