As with all jewellery, Ancient Greek Jewellery was made to be worn and was intended to represent the status and wealth of the wearer when worn in public. Along with necklaces, bracelets, and finger rings, earrings were some of the most common items of jewellery worn by Greek women, so much so that the 2ndcentury A.D. Greek scholar and rhetorician, Pollux, was able to list some seventeen different types of earrings, each with their own names.
