Roman Gold Earrings with Pearls

A pair of beautiful Roman gold earrings, featuring a large central daisy motif, made from gold sheet in the opus interrasile technique. A central pearl sits in the middle, secured by a thin gold wire. The large central daisy is followed by a geometric segment, from which three additional pearls hang.

Date: Circa 3rd-4th century AD.
Condition: Excellent.

Earrings of this kind would likely have belonged to a person of high status, as pearls were a luxury in the ancient world. According to Pliny, pearls were the most valued luxury commodity.
