Western Asiatic Gold Cluster Earrings

An extremely fine and intricate Western Asiatic pair of gold earrings, each comprising of a hook leading to wire work wrapped around the lower section with two small lateral spherical gold granules. A row of fine granulation attached below from which a biconvex fluted ball connects with a cluster of four spherical balls hanging underneath.

Date: Circa 1st millennium BC
Provenance: Property of a North London gentleman; previously in the collection of Mr S.M., acquired in the 1970s-1990s.
Condition: Fine, complete and intact. These earrings are suitable for modern wear with modern hook or stud applied. Please consult a professional jeweller for any alterations.

Western Asia produced very sophisticated and detailed jewellery crafted from gold, silver and copper. Gold would have been  hammered down to a thin layer and manipulated into different shapes. Gold and silver jewellery would have featured gold granules, glass and semi-precious stone inlays and detailed engravings.
