As in many ancient societies, jewellery was an important social marker used to demonstrate wealth, social status and privilege. During the late Bronze age, Cyprus was an important artistic centre, demonstrating a synthesis of local and foreign traditions, including from Egypt, Greece, and the Near East. Both in Greek and Near Eastern societies, jewellery was worn in everyday life but was also buried with the decease as part of his or her funerary outfit.
