Western Asiatic Silver Hair Ring

A finely modelled Western Asiatic silver loop ring, with both ends displaying a small cluster of different size silver granules. Further enrichment encludes more silver granules forming a piramid-shape to one end. Such ring would have been possibly used as a hair ring.

 

Date: Circa Early 1st millennium BC
Provenance: Property of a North London gentleman; previously in the collection of Mr S.M., acquired in the 1970s-1990s.
Condition: Fine condition, slight earthy encrustation.

Western Asia produced very sophisticated and detailed jewellery crafted from gold, silver and copper. Gold would have been  hammered down to a thin layer and manipulated into different shapes. Gold and silver jewellery would have featured gold granules, glass and semi-precious stone inlays and detailed engravings.
