Phoenician Swirl Ring from the Mustaki Collection

An extremely beautifully decorated Phoenician gold cell, pierced to both sides for suspension and set in a modern swirl ring.The cell holds an engraved black stone and is further enriched with a finely rendered granulated decoration. To the centre of the cell a shiny cabochon garnet. A border of granules frames the composition to both the sides.

This exquisite piece comes from the Mustaki collection.  Gustave Mustaki was an avid collector in the early 20th century, with his collection coming to the UK under Egyptian licence in 1947. Many of his pieces are in major museums worldwide, including the British Museum, the Getty Museum, and the Egyptian State Museum.
