Egyptian Faience Cowroid

A unique, faience stylised cowroid. The underside depicts a sistrum handle, which is surmounted by a frontal Hathor head. To the sides are two upreared cobras, with all images suspended above a gold sign.

Condition: Very fine condition; some damage due to age.

This cowroid is from the Gustave Mustaki collection. As an avid collector in the early 20th century, Mustaki amassed a collection of antiquities from Alexandria in Egypt, and his collection came to the UK under Egyptian license in 1947. Many of the pieces are in major museums worldwide, including the British Museum, the Getty Museum, and the Egyptian State Museum. Ancient Art has purchased over 1,700 scarabs from this collection.
