Roman Green Miniature Glass Flask

$208.51

An Ancient Roman translucent blown glass of an unusual and rare shape. The vessel of a beautiful light green colour features a flat, folded foot, piriform-shaped body leading to a flat, folded rim. This piece shows its original translucency: the metallic iridescence, which can be admired on the surface of Roman glassware, was unintentional and was caused by the weathering on the surface, which depended mainly on burial conditions of the item.

Date: Circa 1st-4th century AD.
Provenance: Private Mayfair, London collection, SM.
Condition: Fine, complete and intact. Signs of aging and earthly encrustations visible on the surface. Light patination to the surface.
