A Holy Land terracotta twin handled flask, of the pilgrim flask type, featuring a wide, globular body, a short neck and two applied handles extending from the rim to the shoulders. The surface has been left undecorated.

 

Date: Circa 1500-1300 BC
Condition: Fine, complete and intact. Signs of aging to the surface.

This type of vessel is known as pilgrim flask due to its portability and favor among pilgrims traveling in the Holy Land during Late Roman times and Medieval times. However, such shape has been recovered in the Holy Land region since the Late Bronze Age. Pilgrim flasks were usually potted with thick clay, allowing to keep the contained liquid, usually water, cool and safe.
