Strap slides (also known as keepers) were used on horses’ harnesses during the Late Medieval period to secure the loose ends of straps after passing through a buckle. Detailed motifs and decorations were added likely to demonstrate wealth and status of the riders. The mounts had a similar decorative use, they would often display noble family’s crest, but were often simply used to adorn the harnesses of their horses. Bronze was a commonly used metal in the Medieval period used for clothing and equine decoration as well as small household decorative items and large-scale cast-bronze statues.
