A flat, crescent axe head in an epsilon shape. The weapon features two rear projections, each pierced in the centre with a single hole for a rivet.

Date: Circa 3rd Millennium BC
Condition: Fine with some marks of ageing on the surface, the weapon is split in three places.

The crescent axe head with an epsilon shape enjoyed wide distribution in the Near East, where it first appeared in Mesopotamia during the third millennium BC. It probably evolved from a simple, crescent-shaped blade, which was hafted into a wooden shaft, itself curved to fit the back of the blade.
