Roman Bronze Appliqué

An ancient Roman cast bronze appliqué in the form of a bust, possibly depicting Mars or Minerva. The appliqué appears to be hollowed on the reverse below the head. Mounted on a purpose-made stand.

Date: Circa 2nd - 4th Century AD
Condition: Fine condition with signgs of ageing on the surface.

Both Mars and Minerva were important deities in ancient Roman culture and mythology. Minerva was the Roman goddess of medicine, strategy, science, and wisdom, whilst Mars was the god of war.
