Illuminated Medieval Bible Page

An illuminated leaf from a Bible, composed of two columns of gothic script with 43 lines of text per column. On one side, a large letter has been decorated with red, blue, and green pigments, with additional detailing in gold. The eagle within the letter represents the evangelist, St John. On the reverse, the text is framed by a border with a dragon in green, blue, and red. Additional details have been highlighted in gold.

Date: Circa early 13th century AD
Condition: Very fine condition

This particular leaf came from a Bible belonging to a Dominican monk, known as Jacques de Bevagna. He was the founder of the Dominican convent at Bevagna, and died in 1301 AD.
