Granite
Granite is a grey or black stone that may exhibit striking back and white contrasting species, especially if polished. Granite is an extremely hard stone making it difficult to carve even for artists with modern tools. As such its wide use by the ancient Egyptians is all the more impressive; from substantial sized sculpture, granite was also used for smaller sculpture as well as to form jewellery beads and amulets.
