Geometric Design

Geometric designs were popular in many cultures of the ancient world, often making up all or part of the decorative aspect on an artefact. They are generally composed of repetitive patterns using straight lines and motifs of simple shapes or images. The term also gives its name to a phase of Greek art, covering the period c. 900-700 BC, which emerged at the end of the Greek Dark Ages and was characterised by such designs.
