Anglo-Saxon hooked tags were versatile, decorative metal fasteners, used to secure garters, clothing or purses. They were uniform in their formation, featuring a plate, rivets and a hook. From the repertoire of finds, tags or dress hooks, were made from bronze, silver and sometimes iron. Plates were largely circular or triangular in shape, although trefoil examples also exist. Decorative patterns and motifs upon the plates ranged from foliated, concentric circles, geometric and occasionally zoomorphic. They were used by both men and women from the 6th – 11th centuries.
