Greek Key Pattern

The Greek key pattern, also known as the meander, is a linear decorative pattern made of straight lines and 90 degree corners and typically, though not strictly, formed of a single line. The meander pattern may vary in complexity but frequently shows key like shapes, though more complex labyrinthine designs can be found. The key pattern is used extensively throughout the history of Greek vase painting starting from the geometric period and can be considered to epitomise the Greek aesthetic style that introduces to ancient art a sophisticated degree of architectural type designs.
